Well folks, we are closing in on the end. This is the last full share before I head to Alaska next week to freeze my butt off!
I taste-tested the romaine, and it seems to be doing pretty good, so I harvested all that I had to give you one last bit of lettuce for the season.
The tomatoes are going gang-busters, and I am having trouble keeping up with them. Many are splitting on the vine before I can harvest them.
New this week: spotty apples! Ugly on the outside, good on the inside (at least the ones I taste-tested are).
In this week's share: apples, basil, carrots, kale, melons (variety - for those who didn't get one last week), romaine lettuce, peppers (variety), and tomatoes.
Well, it seems that the lettuce is finally giving up--this heat wave has really done them in. You all have a small, somewhat bitter share of lettuce this week, and I fear it will be the last. I had been hoping that I could eek out the lettuce to last to the bitter end, and well, I guess it has.
The vines of the sweet potatoes have been growing like gang busters, and I was keeping my fingers crossed for a good harvest, but alas, there were fewer than hoped for. At least the deer have been enjoying the leaves...
The melons are ripening, but it is tricky to tell when they are ready, so those of you getting melons this week will need to let me know how they taste. I am not getting enough of any one variety that you will all get one of each, but you will all get at least one kind of melon (eventually).
In this weeks share: carrots, cucumber, lettuce mix, melons (for most), swiss chard, summer squash, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and peppers (variety).
