Lucky you, today you are getting some bonus broccoli! The plants have been putting up little broccoli heads, and there were enough to share this week. I think they are trying to make up for their pathetic cousins, the cauliflower, which just will.not.flower.
There are 5 different tomato varieties heading out this week, so check the pictures below (on the website) to see what you are getting (and I *think* I got it right -- I had trouble locating some labels). It is my first year growing heirloom tomatoes, and I have been learning that they are, well, ugly. So if you get some ugly tomatoes that are on the verge of splitting, and maybe have a few suspicious holes, know that that is how they are *supposed* to look. They are notoriously hard to pick and get to customers while looking good. That's why you can't get them at the grocery store. I have been reading that it is best to pick them with "green shoulders", so those of you who are getting the Cherokee Purples this week, just let them ripen on your counter for a few days.
And speaking of missing labels, the peppers are having a little identity crisis. So I'm pretty sure the pepper you are getting this week is a jalafuego jalapeno. So, hot. Please remember to take care in cutting them up, and whatever you do, *do not* take out your contacts after handling the seeds with your bare hands. Ask Aaron how he knows this.
In this weeks share: bonus broccoli, carrots, cucumber, lettuce mix, parsley, pepper (hot), summer squash, and tomatoes.
Katy has suggested a summer squash cook-off at the farm party -- so prepare your best recipe for getting rid of, er, I mean, enjoying the abundance of summer squash!
Have a great week!
