One more week of shares folks! It is definitely feeling like fall is here.
As the growing season is winding down, there are fewer items, but hopefully the quantity is good for you. There are fewer winter squash than I had hoped for. As not only did the squash bugs to take a toll, but I learned this year that deer love to eat green butternut squash. Who knew? So although you will be getting squash for the final shares, I don't have the quantity or variety I had hoped for.
In this weeks share: cabbage, lettuce mix, onion, potatoes, sweet potatoes, tomatoes (still!) and pie pumpkins.
These pumpkins make the best pie! And pumpkin bread! And pumpkin cookies! I'll put up my favorite pie recipe later today on the website (it can be hard to find a pumpkin pie recipe that uses fresh pumpkin). These should keep in a cool, dry location for several months, so you can save it to make a Thanksgiving pie. Or, cook the pumpkin, divvy it up into smaller amounts (the quantities you need for baking your favorite things) and freeze.
